Quilt anywhere and anything by learning the basics of hand piecing! Start by learning to create your own template from any block you want to sew – of your own design or from a traditional pattern. Then, learn how to use that template to begin to piece blocks by hand.
This class is good for any level of quilter who wants to learn a new skill!
Mixing Fabrics: Beyond the Collection – Half-Day (3 hours)
Do you have fabric you just love but can never seem to use in a quilt? Do you find yourself working within fabric collections, unsure of how to move beyond other designers’ decisions? Let’s mix it up. Learn strategies and gain confidence in combining all kinds of prints and using them effectively in a quilt. Let’s use each other’s stashes to bring renewed life to these pieces, as well as explore quilt patterns and design options that will let these fabrics shine.
Improv Piecing – Half-Day or Full-Day (3 or 6 hours)
Expand your quilter’s toolkit by learning the basics of improvisational piecing! Improv piecing sets the pattern and precision aside, and allows the quilter to play with fabric, make design decisions, and create something completely unique. We will learn the fundamental techniques of improv piecing, review the work of some quilters using improv in their work today, and be empowered with the instruction and freedom to sew up something special.
Introduction to Foundation Paper Piecing – Half-Day or Full-Day (3 or 6 hours)
Find new precision in your piecing and leave worry about bias edges behind! Using the classic Spiderweb block, we’ll learn the basics of foundation paper piecing. You’ll be able to leave class with a mini-quilt top, or the beginnings of a large quilt. Either way, paper piecing will open up a new world of quilt design!
